The Chicano Wave

When: Wed., Feb. 22, 7 p.m. 2017
Price: Free

The Chicano Movement, which reached its height in the '60s, empowered Mexican-Americans across the country and inspired a renewed sense of solidarity within the community.

Most people don't look into the music of the movement, which encompassed a wide variety of genres from blues to R&B to punk and more, all influenced by the social and political atmosphere of the time.

Producer/director and co-writer of this documentary, John J. Valadez, has had a hand in award-winning documentaries for PBS and CNN, including Passin' It On, about a former leader of the Black Panther Party, and The Last Conquistador, both for PBS' "POV" series.

7 p.m., CC's Cornerstone Arts Center, 825 N. Cascade Ave., free,
