The Importance of Being Earnest

When: Jan. 23-25 and Jan. 30-Feb. 1 2014
Phone: (719) 330-1798
Price: $10-$12

Noted (and knighted) British playwright Tom Stoppard once said that The Importance of Being Earnest "is important, but it says nothing about anything," which The New Yorker explained in 2011 to mean this: "A play doesn't necessarily have an obligation to convey a moral, social, or political message. ... Shouldn't dazzling language, speed-of-light wit, and the launching of riveting ideas and real or invented historical juxtapositions into a vortex that continues spinning long after the final curtain, suffice?" See for yourself at the new Black Box Theatre (1367 Pecan St., production of Oscar Wilde's 1895 trivial comedy for serious people. Tickets are $12 at the door. — Bryce Crawford
