Change comes slowly at this Manitou Springs standby. The last big shift: After a fire burned down The Keg Lounge's kitchen three years ago, they added fryers. They also offer seasonal dinner items, a manager tells us. But we’re here for the more affordable lunch menu, nabbing a Mile High Sandwich ($11) and 6-ounce Southwestern burger ($9.50). The former’s a mound of prime rib under cheddar and grilled onions, served with a side of horseradish “horsey” sauce. We wish for a little more beefy flavor from the meat and a little more horseradish bite from the generally mild sauce, but it’s far from bad and a respectable portion besides. The burger comes topped with pepperjack and slices of green chile, plus a side cup of avocado spread. Its Ranch Foods Direct beef patty comes cooked to a perfect medium, bearing a nice though non-spicy flavor overall. We pay $3 extra for side sweet potato fries, which rate fine, and $2 extra for french fries, which get a house seasoning that pops and delights.
