Independence Day may have passed, but a mix of blues and rockabilly is about as all-American as one can get. Devotees of both styles are in for a treat this Thursday, July 27, when the long-running San Diego-based act The Paladins takes the stage at The Gold Room.
The Paladins may not quite be a household name, but with nine studio albums under their belt and a reputation as a hard-working, high-spirited, instrument-swapping live act, the band certainly has earned its share of adoring fans all across the globe. Even early in their career — and, it must be added, well ahead of the curve for the early 1980s rediscovery of rockabilly — The Paladins were touring partners with acts such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Los Lobos, The Blasters and The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Their 1996 live LP, Million Mile Club, was released in the wake of ... you guessed it ... the band's millionth mile traveled while touring the U.S. Their most recent LP, New World, was released in April.
