In the former location of All American Sports Cafe, The Parkway Tavern got underway a year ago in October. It doesn’t offer much for decor beyond neon signs and big-screen TVs, but Tuesdays bring trivia night and Fridays karaoke.

And the bar’s stocked with respectable hooch alongside the classic well stuff — we spy Distillery 291 whiskey bottles on the back bar, for example. But we drink Breckenridge Brewery’s Strawberry Sky kolsch off tap, big with the fruit aroma and finish flavor plus honeydew notes from Huell Melon hops, known for exactly that. And a bottle of Michigan-based Bell’s Brewery Two Hearted Ale, a 100-percent Centennial hopped American IPA with ample bitterness and maltiness. The barkeep says he brought it in because it’s one of his favorite beers.

Another bartender guides us to a surprising item amid a very typical and undistinguished bar-food menu: lumpia rolls. She says the owner/chef is Filipino and cooks the crispy, fried spring rolls (the highlight of many a local food truck these days) from scratch. T

hey’re cigar-thin and airy inside, not packed too tight, with a little minced meat and veggies and a basic Mae Ploy-type dip — altogether pretty awesome.
