Sweet Elephant’s Old Colorado City location is the original, where co-owner Don Quintana has been making wine since 2014; he’s self-taught says his wife/co-owner Susan, proudly. At this expanded site outside The Citadel mall, where the wine’s now made (almost all from Western Slope Colorado grapes) they sell more than 20 house varietals. We can’t resist tasters, including a fun Palisade peach, summer-sweet and lovely berry wine, and peppery Syrah, even though we’re just in for a midday coffee. Sweet Elephant buys a medium-roast African blend from Denver’s IMACK Coffee. It drinks like a dark roast, no matter in the case of our iced white mocha and half-sweet dark mocha (each $4.95/medium) because the toastiness folds nicely into the deep, rich chocolate heart of the dark and sweetness of the white. They’re well made and enjoyable.
