Re: “City scores big win in Banning Lewis Ranch bankruptcy case

I have always dreaded the 70,000+ homes they wanted to build out there before. Not only would they have been another potential drain on our city resources, but all those homes would have been an eye sore, just like the ugly sea of roof tops along the Powers corridor. Plus, I've also noticed the people who live on the east side of town seem very culturally distant, as if they came from another state, and only wonder out of their homes for big events like Spring Spree or Territory days. Do we really need to invite more people like that into town.

I would love to see a developer actually do some good and start improving on our city center, instead of destroying it with more tract homes. Things like walk-able multi-use neighborhoods, instead of closed off neighborhoods that are miles from the nearest big box shopping strip. We need more venues to bring people out of their bubbles, I mean BLR has plenty of open space for a massive Race track, or even a decent sized theme park, or outdoor music / event center.

Re: “Are owners of the burned homes 'rich'?

I would like to point out that I have worked for some of the people in that area, and some of these households are retired or already have a 'rich' bank account, which means they are probably getting a small yearly income from their pensions or other investments. How can you count these rich retired people as anything else, just for having a low annual income. Another thing: House's in that area are not cheap either; there was a house, on Tamora Way, selling close to $700,000. Trying making that Mortgage payment on anything below 100K a year.
