Re: “Letters

You probably know lots of "poor" American folks who get to drive cool foreign cars, fill those cars up with foreign gas, watch foreign shows on cable TV, eat exotic foods from faraway places, read books written by scholars from all over the world, surf internet sites in hundreds of different languages with ads tailored to thousands of different cultural backgrounds, and otherwise take advantage of a cornucopia of business services and products that, absence free trade, would never have been possible.

You may not, however, know the Cambodians, the Chinese, and the other "foreigners" who produce those goods and get paid salaries that, while admittedly quite meager and gained only by toiling through what we consider intolerable conditions, they otherwise would not have, and with those salaries are able to provide their families with standards of living that, while admittedly much lower than ours, they otherwise would never dream of.

Do you really resent those folks so much, simply because of the geographical accident determining their birth outside our national boundaries, that you would deny them these otherwise unattainable benefits to provide shitty jobs to a few college graduates?
