Re: “Local is the new organic

This movement threatens organic and plays right into the hands of big agri-business that is threatened by the organic-local food market growth. Dropping organic because it has gotten big is a mistake. I'm a small organic farmer and believe me, the premium you get for organic more than offsets the cost and time. What these farmers are proposing is that consumers need to trust us when we say "Oh I'm not certified organic, but I grow organically." Hogwash. As an old organic farmer in my neighborhood once said, "Every crook is local to someone." And though those crooks may be few they will undermine the organic movement which has done more the improve health of people and planet than any other agricultural/market movement in history. I'll keep my organic certification AND local distribution thank you.
