Re: “About that tricky ballot wording

I think we have much more important issues to tackle in this city.

Re: “Misfire

I am very thankful for the efforts of all involved with fighting this fire. They saved my home near Trailblazer Elementary, which I thought for sure would be a total loss.

I don't understand why mandatory evacuations of the "upper" Mountain Shadows area did not occur earlier than 4:21pm on Tuesday June 26th. I was listening to the online radio scanner (CSFD, CSPD, EPC and EMS) at work. As the spotters above Queens Canyon reported fire racing into the canyon around 1pm, somebody asked whether the rest of Mountain Shadows had been evacuated. When they learned it had not been evacuated, they recommended doing so immediately. Why did it take over three hours after that to publicly declare a mandatory evacuation of that area?

Fortunately, once I heard the evacuation discussion on the scanner I was able to leave work and head home to get my pets and some other personal belongings. Had I waited until the mandatory evacuation was publicy announced, I would not have been allowed back into the neighborhood.

We should demand a third party review of the city's performance in order to be better prepared for the next time a emergency like this happens. I don't think it's a matter of IF it will happen, rather WHEN it will happen.
