UCCS announces multi-million dollar branding effort

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs announced on Sept. 14 a five-year, $6 million deal with Karsh Hagan of Denver to provide promotional services and branding for the school where enrollment has exploded by about 50 percent in the past decade. According to a release, Karsh Hagan will provide strategic advertising, marketing, media placement and design services for campaigns to help increase enrollment, improve visibility and public perception, and attract top-tier students.

The news wasn't embraced by everyone. Tom Huber, a professor of geography who's been with UCCS since 1981 and served as dean of the Graduate School and associate vice chancellor of research, said in a blog post comment that the contract is "the most egregious and obscene waste of money I have ever heard about at UCCS." Maja Krakowiak, president of UCCS Faculty Assembly, tells the Indy via email, "I am still gathering information about this and will be discussing it with faculty."
