Re: “Cyclists say their lives are at risk from road-raging motorists

Anthony, I agree, mostly. The rules as mentioned earlier are clear, please read them and let us know what you think. I think we agree people need to be educated and informed and not pick this rule or that rule to follow based on their feelings at the moment.

The main issue I had with this is a very vocal cycling advocate apparently not knowing/understanding the rules of the road. Having ignorance spread based on emotion is the problem. But perhaps I am mistaken and do not understand the rules, could you please site where remaining in a single file with a group on a two lane road with no bike lane is recommended against grouping up and taking the entire lane?

Or maybe just give your thoughts on the following scenario that was mentioned earlier.

What I am saying is that to take a group of say 30-40 cyclists and having them in single file on a lane of traffic with no bike lane would stretch for a long way and force any car wishing to pass to cross a line not intended to be crossed and enter oncoming traffic (due to the 3 foot passing rule), the result should a car come from the opposite direction would be either to hit head on, or swerve into the cyclists. On the other and if you take a group of 30-40 cyclists and bunch them up and take the lane then you are decreasing the time they are impacting traffic, and providing a larger mass to avoid collisions with motorists. Or am I misunderstanding this?

And yes, no one is perfect, and fortunately ignorance can be fixed through education and experience.

Re: “Cyclists say their lives are at risk from road-raging motorists

The best way to deal with issues such as this is to increase awareness and education and this has to be for cyclists, motorists, and pedestrians. Such as knowing the cycling laws. For instance Mr Severson, the laws as cited in the Colorado Bicycling Manual put out by the state and specifically mention when a cyclist can take a lane would be a good read for you and other "responsible cyclists" to know the law and adhere to it. Further more, I am glad the biggest leach on the cycling community has piped up! Severson has been nothing more than a loud mouth blow hard that rarely if ever does anything to benefit anyone other than himself. Look at the urban bum project, he took established homeless trails and marketed them as "his" project! Ha ha What a joke, sit down and shut up you twonk. You guys remember when Severson was "attacked and viciously thrown from his bike" by a Jack Quinn's runner miles from where Jack Quinn's runners run? Such a joke, but the sad part is we all know it but him....
