Re: “Still flowing

Fyi- The salaries only account for approx. 16% of the budget and are not funded by taxes. Fees are not being added for salaries, CSU is a municipality, "not for profit"- part of the city but not funded by tax dollars- there are no "special favors"!! Many jobs (btw-200+ are gone and others are picking up the slack) are 24/7, 365 days (e.g.- power plants, transmissions, water, gas depts. etc)and are run by dedicated, highly skilled people that do whatever it takes to keep people comfy and the city safer when its cold or hot and the power goes out for example. (picture -transmission lines being worked on in freezing, snowy conditions by someone-(long hours, dangerous conditions too) or a water main breaking @ 2 am and streets are getting flooded. These things are taken care of by skilled people who don't work 9-5 M-F and holidays/weekends off) As far as infrastructure, Colorado Springs is 75+ years old and it needs to be replaced. Who do you think should pay for this.. CLUE: Those that enjoy clean running water and a flushing toilet that like this standard of living. Live somewhere else, such as California, and you will see how inexspensive and reliable the power is here. Public safety such as police and fire account for more than 50% of C/S budget. I don't want less of these people (police, fire) than anyone else (BTW, I voted for 2c), but we are still better off than most cities. Did you know CSU offers rebates on products (only 1 other utility in the state offer these), LEAP program for those who need help paying their bill, classes that teach ways to save on their bills- Check out CSU.org) In summary, remember when you are comfy in your home with your family on cold snowy nights, or hot days, or when you turn on your lights to use the bathroom @ 2am, there are people making sure that you continue to enjoy these comforts that are "just there" all the time. It takes many dedicated, highly skilled people 24/7 365 days that let you enjoy these simple things. Life does not get cheaper with time in case you haven't noticed.
