Re: “If not here, where?

Im sure a very small percentage of the increase could be attributed to the economy but if you compare the percentage increase of campers down there to the unemployment rate or percentage you will find a large difference between those two numbers. So again it may have a little to do with the economy but in reality, has a lot more to do with the city enabling these folks by allowing them to live there. Now keep in mind I am speaking generally here and do not personally know each persons circumstances. What I do know is I have interacted with a lot of these people and many of them have dependence issues, be it alcohol or drugs.

Re: “If not here, where?

Well lets take a look here and I'll ask a question. Since the Police Department got intimidated to stop doing it's job and enforce the laws, has the homeless problem got better or worse? I run along that trail often and can tell you it is disgusting!!!!! It smells and there is trash piling up all over the place. Does anyone really think when these homeless people have to use the bathroom that they go find one? Please! If you want to see disgusting go look at the small wall in Monument Valley Park along the trail just north of Bijou. Someone actually sat on that wall and defecated so now you literally have cr@p on the wall and ground which has been there for months. Regarding where will they go? Where did they go before they were allowed to "camp"? If you make it easy and legal then the word will spread and we will have people from all over the country coming here. Lets not set that precedent. If we did create a legal area who is going to pay to keep it clean ie. take out the trash and clean the toilets? The city cant even afford "Keep Colorado Springs beautiful" which didnt really seem to do anything anyway.
