Re: “Cracks in the code

I used to work in Academy Admissions. There was one candidate who attended Air Academy High School. He had deficient grades, but since he was classified as an intercollegiate athlete he attended the Prep School.

Only with an outstanding score by his Liaison Officer (a representative of the Academy who offers a subjective evaluation) could he get an appointment.

That candidate was the younger son of Lt Gen Michael Gould. His Liaison Officer was Paula Gould, his mother.

The Admissions Department has since adopted the “Paula Gould rule” banning parents to serve as liaison officers of their own children so that this kind of nepotism does not occur again.

The fish rots from the head.
