Re: “Letters

I am responding to the comments by Mr. Durand concerning the Supremes and their so called activism on the 2nd Amendment. I believe the use of the term "the people" as found here will be determined to be the same "people" used in several other amendments. The 'people' ARE the individual citizens as found within the individual 13 states then formed. Please explain, sir, if you can; the difference between your terms as you place them in the 2nd, and why they weren't used, as you describe them, within the others? Our forefathers didn't just pick words out of the air to place them here and there; they were wisely chosen to give the meaning required. The original 10 amendments were called the "BILL OF RIGHTS"' not the BULL OF PRIVILEGES as many would have us believe; and were written to show our new government just what it was ALLOWED to do as far as trying to subjugate the people of this new, God fearing country. The wording 'shall not be infringed' means just that. Nowhere does it state 'infringed just a little bit, or by reasonable terms for the safety of the PEOPLE. Ben Franklin once stated in words to the effect that"He who sacrifices his CONSTI- TUTIONAL RIGHTS IN THE NAME OF SAFETY will soon discover he has neither!" Oh, for those of you who believe that the so called assault weapons being sold in America are in fact REAL aw's; you have been grossly misinformed. REAL AW's are the ones our service men and women are up against in the Middle East; that is, capable of being fired fully automatic, not just semi-auto as are the wrongly termed weapons being sold legally within the USA.
