Hailing from the same Brooklyn Americana scene as Ollabelle and The Doc Marshalls, Yarn first made its name nearly a decade ago with a weekly residency at Greenwich Village’s legendary Kenny’s Castaways. Last year, following a period of internal and external tensions, the band relocated to North Carolina, which explains frontman Blake Christiana’s endearingly hopeful, if somewhat wary, tone on the opening track of their most recent album This Is the Year: “Oh Carolina, won’t you rescue my heart, it’s barely beating, I’m begging for a new start.” With any luck, the relocation will also be a form of continuation for a band that’s played as many as 200 shows a year, including Colorado Springs’ own MeadowGrass Music Festival, while sharing songwriting credits with enduring pop icons like John Oates and Edie Brickell. Yarn also received a warm reception at Bernie Sanders’ San Francisco rally, and we all know that 10,000 Bernie fans can’t be wrong. The band’s free Stargazers show is the third in a series of five concerts to support the 2017 Give! Campaign; reserved table seating is also available for $15.
