Re: “Jared Polis, local Dems to host town hall at Library

Ms Rosenbaum should get out into the district to see the "options for small business". In fact there are small businesses opening in the district on a regular basis. Although I wasn't included in this Town Hall I look forward to a successful campaign and election.

What do get when you cross an aborted breastaraunt, an idiot fast food legend (in his own mind), and a shady breastaraunt-booby-guru (also in his own mind)?

What about the license plates that are getting stolen from the expo center and the hospital saying "it isn't our problem"?

Re: “Penrose Hospital workers banned from parking in the Old North End

Penrose is causing a huge safety issue with its employees by making them park off campus. They are not monitored 24/7, and the shuttle buses stop running at 11pm. What happens when someone is on call and needs to come in for an emergency? Are they forced to pay 3 dollars to get to the hospital quicker? We need to response and be present for the emergency asap. A shuttle bus causes delays in patient care. Or what happens if someone stays late past 11pm to complete patient care? Management tells us to call a taxi, and we will be reimbursed. That's a terrible system. You've to tip a taxi driver too - who will pay that - Penrose? I doubt it. No one is thinking of the patients with these decisions!

Re: “Maketa retrial hearing date set

I've read the articles on http://www.DirtyElder.com for months. I know much of the information on that website to be true.

Which is why I don't get the lack of interest in the local media to go after Elder. Maketa has his problems, like keeping his pants pulled up. But he knew how to run the organization, and while he showed favoritism a few times, it pales in comparison with Elder. The stuff that Elder is up to has GOT to boil over some day, I just wish something would be done about it now, and not wait until it becomes a huge crisis. The honest employees at EPSO deserve some help to clean house.

Perhaps Ms. Zubeck would chime in on why the lack of media interest?

Re: “Penrose Hospital workers banned from parking in the Old North End

They shouldn't be allowed to punish their employees for parking in legal locations unless that employee is on the clock. Last I checked, getting to work was an employee's responsibility, and trying to regulate something that happens off your property in any way should be considered a violation of the work life/home life separation. Roads are built and maintained with our tax money and there are already laws preventing people from blocking driveways. The hospital should either pay it's employees to ride to work on its terms or stay out of people's pre and post work lives. I'm waiting for the first employee to get in trouble for visiting a home or business near their work and parking on the street only to have the "parking police" dock their pay.

Re: “The cost of cutting people and pay

I'm sorry, but isn't this the same thing that Whole Foods did to Natural Food Cooperatives and mom & pop markets all over the country? I get that this article is not ultimately about Amazon and Whole Foods, per se. But it's what RedBox and Netflix did to Blockbuster, as well as a whole lot of other independently owned video rental stores. It's what Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts did to smaller coffee shops, and what the fast food conglomerates did to chicken and fish shacks all over the country.

Companies/corporations of any size are obligated to provide a good customer experience, and that's what makes a customer come back. People like the food at McDonalds, and they like that it tastes the same no matter where they go. People like not having to plan their week around a video rental (when to pick it up, how to decide what to watch, when it has to be returned, etc.), and so Netflix was successful.

If customers truly value the experience of talking to a cashier, then this platform will not succeed. As someone who worked at a video store, I thought people would miss having recommendations. Turns out it's pretty easy to solicit them from Facebook, and build your Netflix queue. Video store clerks are obsolete, like rotary phones and dial-up internet. Get nostalgic all you want, but blaming corporations for keeping up with technology and consumer demand won't give these workers more desirable workforce skills. Let's focus on where jobs are headed, and how to get people trained for the jobs that are sitting unfilled right now.

Re: “Cannabis and skin cancer

I am unable to post this in the Success Stories for whatever reason, so I posted here. I was diagnosed with lung cancer on October 18, 2016. I was advised by my doctor that my only options were to have radiation seeds implanted in my prostate or receive regular external beam radiation. I declined. I knew there had to be other options. I scoured the Internet and discovered a wealth of information about cannabis oil curing cancer. I was able to obtain some medical marijuana oil (Rick Simpson Oil) from it and consumed the recommended dosage by mid January. On January 26th I had a cancer reassessment which consisted of an MRI with a state of the art Tesla 3 MRI machine. Results - NO SIGN OF CANCER! CANCER FREE! One of the things that helped me while going through all this was reading the testimonials and the success stories of those who have used the oil and were cured And with good food diet. Now that this wonderful oil has cured me, I feel I need to let others know as well. Please feel free to contact me ask anything, should you like more information or direct contact to DOCTOR TIMOTHY QUILL, EMAIL at: Timothyquill@yahoo.com.Thank you DR Timothy Quill.Website:http://timothyquill2.wixsite.com/website

Re: “Penrose Hospital workers banned from parking in the Old North End

Samantha, What is a "tony neighborhood"?

Also, you might want to look at a map of the area around Centennial & Fillmore Street. Th new hospital will be on the WEST side of I-25 in close proximity to Kissing Camels neighborhood. The satellite lots they are using are on the EAST side of I-25. This is the information that was shared with the neighborhood by Penrose:

"Penrose Hospital Implements Stricter Parking Policy to Alleviate Neighborhood Parking
On June 1, 2017, Penrose Hospital will implement new and improved changes to their employee parking policy. These changes are designed to create more parking spaces for visitors/patients and to provide a streamlined accountability system for those who park illegally on campus and in the neighborhood. Employees will now have six free shuttles to ride to and from work, but in order to park on campus, they will need to pay. The Parking Garage Levels 3 5 and the parking lot at the corner of Jackson and Cascade Avenue will be $3/day. Hospital employees can still park for free, first come first served on the hospital curbside of Cascade Ave. or Nevada Ave. As always, our policy states that parking in the neighborhood in front of homes and businesses is not allowed.

The new plan employs a full-time parking manager, Monday Friday, who will monitor parking on the hospital campus from 7:30am 6pm, issue tickets for illegal parking and respond to calls from neighbors who have a hospital employee parking in front of their home. The plan includes stricter ramifications for illegal parking which includes, 1st offense, - written warning, 2nd offense - $250 deducted from paycheck/final written warning, and 3rd offense termination. If you see a hospital employee parking in the neighborhood, please call 719-776-PARK (7275) or send an email to PSFParking@centura.org."

Note that the policy against parking in front of homes and businesses was already in place and that parking on the hospital curbside on Cascade and Nevada is still allowed . Penrose deserves credit for responding to the concerns of neighbors and implementing a policy that deters their employees from parking in front of homes and businesses and leaves plenty of convenient parking on campus for the patients and visitors. This is an example of a institution working to be a good neighbor and I think their efforts should be applauded not criticized.

Re: “Reader: Continue to fight for justice

While true this generation is the first to face these obstacles as my generation was to face what we faced and so on in history. Changing times change the future. But to suggest that past generations move out of your way is not correct. No one is just going to move aside it took to much to get where there at. Embrace past generations learn from them they got things done and so can you if both would sit down and listen if the hard heads would soften, listen, learn and compromise. But I guess Im asking to much in this you against me world we live in these days.

Re: “The transgender military debate: policy versus culture

@ Rene Jax,
Obstinant, aren't you?
Ash Carter established a commission to study the effects of open transgender service on readiness. The commission included two general/flag officers. The commission came to the conclusion that that there is no reason transgender personnel cannot serve openly, and that lifting the ban would have no impact on readiness.
From the article: Since Carter's initial announcement last year, many people within the military community have spoken out against trans people serving openly in the armed forces. Their arguments have focused, like Mattis', on readiness and unit morale. Their sentiments match those of the War Department in 1940, regarding the racial integration of the U.S. military, which argued that integration would "produce situations destructive to morale and detrimental to the preparation for national defense."
The exact same arguments were used during the debate surrounding the repeal of Don't So, Don't Tell.

It would be an interesting piece of journalism to sit Perry and Barad down together with someone to facilitate a dialogue and publish the results. They obviously are talking past each other and both seem to care very much about the world they live in.
