Re: “UPDATE: Felony charges dismissed against John San Agustin

"On June 14, 2017, in preparation of trial of co-defendant Terrance Maketa, Detective Kaiser said that it was definitely Chief Deputy District Attorney Gerhart who ordered Ms. Trull to be arrested and not the defendant or any of her supervisors."

Sooooo.... the question of the day.... Will we be seeing charges against Shannon Gerhart?

Re: “Nicoletta, Jaray running for Manitou mayor

While I have not agreed to all of the Mayor Nicoletta's programs and policies she has always been upfront with me and helpful when possible. As a business owner who does not live in Manitou (an unwelcome species) it is hard to be heard at local meetings with residents shouting "You don't live here and your opinion mean nothing".
I have witnessed Ken Jaray's strong-arming firsthand. In our first meeting he stood in my business and stated "If you do not go along with the residents proposal, I will do everything in my power to shut you down". I do not need this man to be in charge if that is how he treats local business owners.
Nicoletta has made some mistakes but her approach is better for everyone I assure you.

Re: “Loss of a beloved trail in Jones Park is leading to interesting proposals

It's B.S. that they are taking this trail away for a fish that was only brought to the area in the 1800s, ON THIS SAME TRAIL (which was a toll road at the time). That's completely ridiculous. Relocate the fish to their natural habitat on the Platte river and leave this area alone. It's been used for over 100 years by people for living, hiking, biking, and recreation.

Why do left leaning folks always want higher taxes and fees? Where's the accountability and priorities?

Re: “Congressional District 5 race draws fourth Republican hopeful

Rhea is no different than Lamborn when it comes to women's reproductive rights. His quotes from CP Colorado Politics article on Oct 14th, 2017:

"Rhea said his judicial experience has given him unique insight into how to draft anti-abortion legislation that can escape the usual political pitfalls.

"I am concerned that we who are pro-life have grown too silent on this issue. My wife and I both have had dramatic experiences around the issue of abortion. We are passionate about that subject and it will be central to our campaign, he said."

Re: “Firefighters back stormwater measure

Every city employee that doesn't live in the city should be required to also pay the $5 by deduction from their check.

Re: “Stephany Rose brings on new treasurer ahead of FEC deadline

Dang people - a hard working candidate raises 68K. The rich kid owen raised like a million. I hope people vote for the better candidate but this district votes party. So far the 2 female candidates have actually participated in the community.

Re: “Firefighters back stormwater measure

Surprise! Surprise! The "stormwater tax" will not be used for stormwater! Let's free up money from the general fund to "bait and switch" to firefighters and police. Interesting three out of the four City Councilmembers on the budget committee voted not to put the "tax" on the ballot. WAKE UP COLORADO SPRINGS CITIZENS! We're becoming the new California!

Re: “Jenkins buys RBD downtown properties

to the headline: ...of course he does. to the lovell quote: "he already owned most of it, he may as well own all of it" this city has no real concept of leadership, no spirit of innovation, no ideas regarding community development and zero interest in understanding/creating/listening/communicating with citizens; we can only cater to the whim of a few individuals

Re: “A proposed change to Section 8 looks to desegregate neighborhoods

SouthEast Colorado Springs is still a nice middle class area. I am sorry about what happened to Deerfield Hills, but other areas such as Soaring Eagles, Miller's Crossing, SandCreek Village and Crestline are filled with nice homes ranging from 150K - 300K. So stop putting down an entire part of the city due to the problems of one neighborhood.

Section 8 can be a hand up to those who will use it as such. I hope that our city officials find ways to make the program work better.

Re: “The Indy's picks for the 2017 Coordinated Elections

I agree School District 11 can use more money but I would also like to see a small payroll tax on the employees that collect pay checks from the district and do not live in the district. Something nominal perhaps based on their salary. That would show me that they are willing to help fund the district too, not just take a check.

Re: “Campaign for city stormwater led by mayor

I can't wait to see if the city sheeple fall for this one.

Previous articles have identified $17Million in the city general fund to pay for stormwater. They city has whined that this is not enough money for stormwater and that the projects are getting backlogged. Now, the city wants you to approve this new tax, er, I mean "fee" that will raise $17Million for stormwater. Great! That will double the amount so they can get caught up, right? Ha ha ha.. no, read the rest of the articles. They need more cops. They need more vehicles.. And it this new tax passes, they have already said that the current $17Million will then be freed up to pay for more cops and vehicles.

So.....
1. They won't actually be increasing spending on stormwater at all. So we can assume the backlog will continue.
2. The only place where spending will increase will be for more cops and police cars.

I guess this isn't really a "stormwater" tax, er, I mean "fee". It is actually a new public safety tax, which the voters rejected last time it was asked for.

Shell games...

Re: “Homes near marijuana dispensaries worth more, report says

Hey BoCC imagine that! Those green crosses were not a detriment.
The BoCC works so hard against marijuana they put an anti marijuana person as the lead for the Board of Health.

Re: “City Council grants taxing authority to Nor'wood Development Group

Unfortunately, council appears to be conducting business as usual with the developers. I'm not anti-development however; I have witnessed the use of too many "creative strategies" to advance certain proposals through planning and Council. In these instances, the taxpayers are left paying for the projects long after the developer has moved on.

Pam, thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Joel, Appreciate your insightful comments. The impervious surface comment is spot on. This is exactly what is getting us into trouble with the EPA, etc.
