Re: “Police are ticketing far more homeless campers than they once did

Since the above complainants have never spent time in a homeless camp, I'd have to say your opinions are absolute rubbish as well as false propaganda. Most homeless camp alone and those campsites are usually reasonably clean. Some homeless camp in groups, and that's where your trash buildup is. There are many areas in town where once homeless are seen camping, folks go dump their trash and yard debris. Not all trashed areas were created by homeless. If you're not going to be part of the solution, then stop being part of the problem. If you can't spend time at their camp, speak with them....then stop making assumptions about them. There are those whom don't give a shite and trash a given area, that's not most of them. Also, remember how much harder it is to do just about anything...when it takes all day long just to walk to and acquire a single meal, then return to a campsite.

Re: “The left's answer to emboldened white supremacists? A militia of their own.

I'm as far left as they come, and I support armed self defense. However, yea this is a bad look. Like the commenter above me said, they just bought random guns. I get that a panic sets in after Cville, so I'm forgiving of it but they make us all look bad. They need 2 learn.

If your goal is crowd defense, you should have side arms not rifles. Look at the secret service.

Re: “Reader: Peaceful protest are for peaceful people

Well, one has to remember this is an opinion. Not fact. Recalling all the people I know there isn't one who owns guns that is a coward. Most grew up with them hunting. Some went through the military. Not many open carry, a number close carry.

Remember; a crazy person will always find a way to kill others. Knives, fertilizer (OK City), vehicles, etc. a person who doesn't have guns has that choice. They will also call on or need someone with a gun, who knows how to handle it, it a dire emergency.

Who helped save people in the madman's rampage in LV? Police, exmilitary amd others schooled in firearms. These folks saved some lives.

Dave :-)

Re: “Police are ticketing far more homeless campers than they once did

Of the 'above commentator' ... how does a grown adult; or young teen; not have some vague ability to bury their bodily waste? Urinate away from the bike path or sidewalk? Properly place trash in a trash receptacle?

Add in the drift around during early AM hours (otherwise they freeze to death in the winter) usually seeking items to ah; 'procure'; because well... IDK. Anyhow; if they lack the clues to at least place rocks on their bodily wastes, seriously?

This really isn't about housing. It is about hygiene. Using Fountain Creek, Bear Creek, Shooks Run, and the waterways as a pre-Roman waste disposal option; eh; these are the things that repulse positivism from the outdoorsy among us.

And as before; if all the areas around these sites were kept clean; that too would go much of a distance towards compassion, love, and respect from the populace. Surrounded by trash might be a mental issue; how putting a person like that into a proper residence would help the surrounded by trash issue? Surrounded in a living room with trash? Trash in a yard? If a person can't dig a hole; and can't put garbage into a dumpster; and providing them with a house is supposed to be a salvation? Society provides room service for none of us. :/

Look, I lived in new Zealand for a while.
I wanted to stay.
I didn't meet their requirements.
I had to go.

R Weiner hates law.
Jesus asked me to not call Bob a fool. Even though I think there is a procedure in place for legal immigration as we speak!
Stop demonizing any police for picking up gate crashers and tossing them back.

You fux know what happens when I go to Sweden and declare "I'm staying!"

Your sentiments make me question Colorado's recreational cannabis laws. Labeling gun owners the way you do is evidence that you are high AF.

This is the second place, that I know of, that Bar Rescue has "improved" and has shut it's doors within 2 years of the show being done. One was in Maryland and now this one.

Re: “City Council grants taxing authority to Nor'wood Development Group

So Nor'wood is given access to tax-free municipal bond financing rates to build a project that will, with 100% certainty, be demanding extra police, extra fire resources, put a further burden on the already failing stormwater system, and--as has already been revealed--demand the City parking enterprise to build a new parking structure costing tens of millions of dollars using fees charged to the public who have to park in downtown and Old Colorado City.

And like the Olympic Museum that was criminally and deceitfully touted as a "no cost to us" proposition yet has siphoned trail money and road money to the tune of over $10 million and counting to build the supporting infrastructure, it's also certain that Norwood will be back through their surrogates on City Staff to add costs to the taxpayer disguised as general fund expenditures through public works expenditures for adjacent infrastructure and a demand for additional public safety budget lines to support their profit center.

The massive extension of Utilities into the area will also be a cost passed on to citizens in the form of higher Utilities bills. These line extensions are some of the biggest elements listed for raising utility rates in the annual Utilties budget. Rate payers pay approximately 60% of the cost of these extensions. This percentage is far higher here where the development community influences Utilities decisions as well. Developers are responsible for paying a higher share in places served by private utilities because the private utility shareholders are less easily bilked.

So this is life in Colorado Springs. All this as we ask a residential utility customer living in an efficiency apartment to vote to approve the same $5 per month for a new stormwater tax that the owner of the apartment complex they live in will pay at their McMansion with acres of impervious surface.

And if "this is how we do development here for 40 years" is the best argument, perhaps citizens and City Council should take a look at what that model has done for our City in the last 40 years, particularly in the City's quality of roads and stormwater, parks condition and public safety response times. Not too great of a track record. But...they're back for more and they'll get it. There's a lot of money paid to political consultants to keep the gravy train going and unless you've got the money to compete with it...good luck. C'est la vie.

Re: “Springs man at the heart of federal lawsuit to upend the Electoral College

I'm with HIM! Twice now, Presidential candidates have lost the electoral college, but won the popular vote, and yet still did NOT become our President. If we really want to make EVERY vote count, it has to be using the Popular vote, the only votes that truly matter. With all the gerrymandering and redistricting that's been done, votes are being suppressed. This has gone on for too long, and must end.

But the City would rather use it as ad retiring for more taxes.

Re: “A racist future for the Republican Party

Bullshit. Back up your tired "white supremacist" rhetoric. It is false and it's another leftist name calling tactic. Every time someone disagrees with anything in the left, they get the ridiculous label. This is why the everyday non-indoctrinated American revolted last November. It's sickening.

Well said, Jan! Social change is about non-violence, peace, and talking..... not taking up arms like the other side has! Its about a different kind of future.....

Re: “Police are ticketing far more homeless campers than they once did

If homeless people had homes, the unsympathetic commentator above would not see all the things he complains about...... pissing and pooping are just a part of life, and without a public toilet (or with locked toilets in our parks), people have to relive themselves somewhere.
Don't blame the homeless for the lack of housing -- blame our City Government (and County) for not stepping up to the plate. And the Urban Renewal Projects they have enabled downtown and on Nevada Ave., will only increase homelessness because they aren't building any affordable housing next to the cutesy shops, restaurants and luxury apartments.
