Re: “Stormwater fee's "vote no" committee political operative doesn't live in the city

I don't live within the city boundaries but this scheme will impact me as I own commercial property within the city boundaries. This is nothing put a scheme to free up tax dollars that are controlled by law to buy new equipment and other things that are not required or needed by the mini mayor, simply put this is a bait and switch SCAM.

Betty is being very gracious given how Stephenie supporters have tried to drag Betty through some mud.

Re: “Congressional candidate Stephany Rose abandoned by campaign leaders

I think it's a shame it came down to this. I have a hard believing Stephany violated any laws, based on her character and the person I've come to know. What saddens me is that a public statement that is so damning came out at all. Because this all but throws Stephany out of the race.... And we haven't even heard her side of the story. I adore Dawn Haliburton-Rudy too. But I am not in favor of this almost personal attack being thrown into the media sphere without a thorough and responsible investigation and concrete evidence. As I said, these allegations will destroy her campaign. And I would have have handled the dissemination of this information very differently with solid and complete proof. Nat Stein does a great job writing, no doubt, but to me it's irresponsible journalism to have covered this without talking it through with Stephany and other respectes Democratic leaders and experts. My two cents. And it saddens me. Anne Marie

Re: “Stormwater fee's "vote no" committee political operative doesn't live in the city

"Fees can be increased without a vote of the taxpayers". Why would anyone vote for approving a blank check from tax payers? That seems like a lack of honesty (ethics), or lack of the homework required to estimate future expenses. Either way, not acceptable!

Betty Field is a good and smart and caring person. I think people should step up and empower her to run a kick-ass campaign

Re: “Stormwater fee's "vote no" committee political operative doesn't live in the city

Anyone remember when Rachel Beck, Sarah Jack and Kevin Walker formed a PR company after having been involved with the Stormwater Task Force? They were then awarded a no-bid contract to provide "stormwater information" on billboards to promote the last stormwater effort. Making it even worse, the money came from the government. But, please keep protesting the truth, Ms Beck!

Re: “Stormwater fee's "vote no" committee political operative doesn't live in the city

Ironic that the "vote yes" (developers/contractors) crowd who has profited from the City's provision of millions in stormwater shortcuts leading directly on the EPA's lawsuit against the City and who are so conflicted in their support of this issue would decry a factual presentation of the facts. That's the best defense they can provide? Ridiculous!

Just look at Schmidt Construction: $50 K to the "vote yes" campaign for the 2C pothole tax. In two years, they've locked in over $16 million in contracts. A 32000% return on investment! They've given $25 K so far to this stormwater effort.

Re: “Stormwater fee's "vote no" committee political operative doesn't live in the city

If the issue is that 'outsiders' should not be allowed to participate in local fundraising or advocacy for or against an issue, where the hell are these outfits from that raised funds and advocated in the 2C campaign?

Associated General Contractors of Colorado
$5K
Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association
$10K
Issues Mobilization Committee
$5K
Martin-Marietta
$10K
Colorado Construction Industry Coalition
$5K

Not in the city or even contiguous to city boundaries.

Re: “Stormwater fee's "vote no" committee political operative doesn't live in the city

Is the statement below an example of why the 'Chamber-EDC' has had so few press announcements announcing the major firms they, through their own efforts, have brought to 'the region'?

Because outsiders view your little berg as a rather backwoods, limited, and exclusionary herd of 1950's thinkers?

"Colorado Springs city voters will decide for ourselves what is best for our community."

One constantly hears of "The Pikes Peak Region" or "The Area".

If it is going to be a 'Community', or an 'Area', or a 'Region' then that would imply all in the community are involved in the decisions of "The Pikes Peak Region" and all have equal right to participate in supporting or opposing issues. Not only those some feckless little Chamber shall grant permission to.

Applying the standard advocated above, only people within the city of Colorado Springs should be allowed to donate to the Chamber of Commerce and EDC.

Re: “Stormwater fee's "vote no" committee political operative doesn't live in the city

CO Sprs residents are entitled to the facts both for and against this measure to allow them to make their own minds up. Give Ms Carno credit for getting the facts out there and you should not have a problem with facts; not opinions and not lies either.

Our library district in Arapahoe not only hires someone who doesnt live in the district; but who lies and misleads residents to pass a 245 % tax increase in 2015. They got it passed too.

As for campaign donations; blame the loose campaign finance laws on that one as our library district took advantage of that too.

No; we dont live in CO Sps. NO we dont know the facts in this issue. NO we have not given any money to anyone on this issue.

Re: “Spring's fleet vehicles of vehicles is wearing out, but a stormwater fee could help

This "fee" isn't about stormwater it is about taking money from one program and applying it to another. So the little mayor is lying again.

Re: “Colorado Ethics Watch announces closure effective December 31

There's no such thing anymore as "ethics". One only has to look at the behavior of the man in the WH and his cronies and Cabinet members to see that! How sad that the days when decency and integrity mattered are gone forever.

Re: “Police are ticketing far more homeless campers than they once did

I've noticed that the Westside pioneer is leading the charge in calling them bums and suggesting that all services be cut off because the editor believes they will fix themselves. People acting like they are OK stepping over dead bodies in the streets and would rather the people they wish to discard would just die. I think people who do nothing and think their words are going to fix the problem are horrific. Most of you are a pay check away from sleeping in the park yourself.

Homeless people don't have garbage pick up. Many of you have never seen the dump sites you good upstanding citizens use around this town.

Re: “Springs man at the heart of federal lawsuit to upend the Electoral College

OK, this wouldn't really "upend the Electoral College". It would make a very minor modification to the way some states implement the Electoral College and it would have had NO AFFECT ON THE ELECTION. It would have allowed some of the electors who were forced to cast votes for Clinton to cast votes for Sanders instead. End result? A divided ticket for the Dems and Trump would have won by an even larger electoral margin.

The Constitution leaves it to the states to determine how electors are chosen. Nothing in the Constitution prohibits the states from placing restrictions on how the electors vote.

If we really wanted to effect change in the Electoral College, we would forbid states from adopting winner-take-all policies; however, it would take a constitutional amendment to do this. All but two states have these winner-take-all policies. These policies mean that a candidate need only win a plurality (not even a majority) of the vote in 11 states to become president. Those states are CA, TX, NY, FL, PA, IL, OH, MI, GA, NC, and NJ.

Re: “I-25 widening campaign raises $54K

So how is the money going to be spent? Will it be given to CDOT (which would go toward more planning/study) or does the PPRTA think they will be allowed by the state to widen that portion from Monument to the county line? Wow - widening a couple of miles just to the north of Monument will really help! Not one article on this ballot issue has said what the money will be used for.
