Re: “Progressive churches prepare to protect immigrants in the heart of Trump country

"Progressive churches prepare to protect immigrants in the heart of Trump country "

Typical misleading headline. There is no threat to legal immigrants.

"But Trump's guidance, issued in January, upended the country's enforcement. That's because it defined "criminal" broadly enough to include everyone in the country without authorization like, say, all the women around this table. "

Again, misleading. Trump did not define what "criminal" is. Long established federal law, 8 US Code 1325 -- last changed over 20 years ago, actually makes them criminals, often felons. Trump is simply enforcing closer to the letter of the law.

Re: “GOP chair charged, but hours later DA's Office dismisses charges

This is a horrible accident and both families are grieving on so many levels. You both should be ashamed of yourselves and try to reach beyond your own limited capabilities of having feelings for people you don't know. Pathetic!

I read this and can only think Whiskey Tango Foxtrot! The council serves as the utilties board and someone should be held accountable. SMH!

Re: “Piñon Canyon Maneuver Site hosts big Army drill

Not one word out of a person from Ft. Carson is the truth!! Those guys spew trash better that any garbage truck in America. Look at this picture--does that look like a barrow ditch with GRASS--Nope!! Just dust, dust and more dust. Wait until the wind starts up--those poor enlisted men had better have respirators or they will develop COPD--just a little while they are young but with age they will be totally disabled. If they haven't seen grey slime instead of lung tissue they had better get ready!!

Re: “Richard Skorman elected president of Colorado Springs City Council

Cool news. Now we need to get rid of the "strong mayor-council" form of government foisted on the rubes in 2011,

Re: “Who thinks we should honor coal?

No one elected the Koch Bros to anything, but they control much of our government (at the federal, state and local levels) with their billions of dollars and octopus-like set of organizations. They, their fellow billionaires, and rivers of dark money are a threat to our democracy. Only way to fight them is to vote Democrat, just hold your nose and do it.

The piece in the Gazette reads like a press release from lobbyists, what crap.

Re: “Neumann Systems Group seems to have vanished

If you want to find Dr. Neumann just have CSU sue in court for ownership of the patents underlying this technology as CSU provided the money to prove the technology works and has an agreement to share income from sales. Dr. Neumann will show up asap to protect his nest egg, else lose his patents.

I suspect that since CSU proved the gear works that Dr. Neumann will declare bankruptcy so he can take his technology to China where he will license his patents to the Chinese who have hundreds of filthy coal plants to retrofit. He will become a billionaire and live high on the hog in Singapore for the rest of his day.

This is a classic case of using taxpayer money to get started then going elsewhere to make your fortune without paying back the taxpayers or honoring your deal with CSU. Anyone have a better scenario?

Re: “Neumann Systems Group seems to have vanished

I'm surprised if there wasn't a warranty in CSU's contract with NSG. Usually there is a warranty of a year, sometimes more. That would be a due diligence problem if either they didn't contract for a warranty, or let NSG evaporate without some arrangement, perhaps an escrow. Might come back to the Utilities Board's responsibility for large purchases...

Re: “Army stages one of its biggest drills yet at Piñon Canyon Maneuver Site

What a contrast of stories on Raider Focus II between the Gazette and the Indy. The Gazette releases a long bunch of happy talk and the Indy digs down into the weeds and tells us the real story.

"In exchange, the city was granted a cut of the action on future sales." Except there have been no other sales. Anywhere. Ever. A cut of Zero is still ZERO.

Doesn't look like Utilities will be getting its cut of future Neumann revenues.

Hearing John Suthers invoke Wallace Stegner makes me laugh. That's funnier than Woodrow Wilson pushing for full integration.

Re: “Strawberry Fields planning continues, county pact still alive

As the author of the National Register document that placed NCCP on the National Register in July of 2009 I would refer people to the Federal Regulations governing the delisting of any Federal Historic Place. Sec. 60.15 Removing properties from the National Register. It is a process involving as much scholarship and political effort as the actual listing and is time consuming. NCCP was admitted to the listing under the Criterion Recreation, Entertainment and Conservation 1884-1959. It is reasonable to consider the proposed use for the property is the same regardless of ownership. The rights of the owner of a historical property are also explained, Sec. 60.14 Changes and revisions to properties listed in the National Register. Under this regulation the Federal government allows changes to historical properties including the altering of a boundry of a historic property. This action would require a new submittal for listing. I do not see a benefit to the citizens of Colorado Springs, or to NCCP by depriving it of its remarkable history and the recognition the park deserves. We should remember in light of our recent fire and flood history that living on the edge of a National Register park dramatically increases the amount of funds that come into the area and the speed with which they are transferred. The delisting of any historic property only hurts the citizens of a community and the future generations who can benefit from preserving something that defines who we are as a people.

Re: “New downtown Colorado Springs tourism project shot down

We all know right wing nut job anschut and all his developer buddies just want to own this city. Till the people of Colorado Springs learn to not vote for the R on the ballot and look at the person or persons and then vote, maybe the city will survive.
