Re: “Reader: I'm fed up with the hate being spewed at the symbols of our history

I find it interesting that many people from the south call the civil war the war of northern aggression. Who attacked who at Fort Sumter? If you guessed the North you need to go back to school. As far as old monuments are concerned, if the powers that be decide that getting rid of old symbols of rebellion will help calm people's obsessions with that rebellion I say melt them all down. Their is not one civil war statue that is worth someone's life. The war is over, get over it.

Re: “Reader: I'm fed up with the hate being spewed at the symbols of our history

Maybe to some the flag represents non-emotional history, but as long as people do stuff like flaunt it from their pick-up truck as they chase pedestrians down, yelling racist chants, it has no chance of losing its terrible connection. It's up there with the swastika now, which was an ancient design used thousands of years prior to the creation of the Nazi party. Just too many ugly people associated with these pieces of "history".

Re: “Reader: I'm fed up with the hate being spewed at the symbols of our history

Let's take down Martin L King's statues. JFK's. Let's strip all history away. Let's burn the books on the south and the civil war.

Let's tear down Vietnam War Memorial. Lincoln's Memorial, the Washington Monument.

It's all the same folks. You opinion doesn't trump mine. Your rights are not higher or mightier than mine.

The vast majority of the comments here are wearing away the Freedom of Speech.

Maybe more tolerance folks.....

Dave :-)

Hmmm, but you seem to be ok with the revisionist history of not even using the actual confederate flag as your historic symbol. Instead you rewrite history and use the Virginia battle flag as the confederate flag.

You say that, but the monuments in new orleans have quotations about white supremacy on them.

The war was about state's rights, to free labor.

The flag is largely a symbol of hate.

Its got more to do with the groups that have adopted those symbols as there message of hate and bigotry that make them repulsive to many Americans in this day and time.

Charlies Manson was also part of our history. Do you celebrate him? The confederates lost, just like England, Mexico, and Germany.

For a "Daughter of the Confederacy," you seem to know remarkably little about it. You celebrate a flag designed by men who decided that owning their fellow human beings was more important than maintaining the integrity of these United States. It's a symbol of treason, hatred, and inhuman cruelty towards one's fellow man.

Diana Belles sounds like the history revisionist since she is wrong about what schools have been teaching for 150 years. To bad you didn't do anything to explain your position other than to tell people they are wrong.
Just yelling WRONG doesn't even work for #45.

Re: “Reader: I'm fed up with the hate being spewed at the symbols of our history

Diana, you can't possibly be for real. No one is really that ignorant about US history. My grandfather's cousin, Brigadier General John R. Jones, was commander of Stonewall Jacksons 2nd brigade. He made no apologies for his views on slavery and advocated the violent overthrow of the evil United States to his students at his military school in Maryland. They were traitors, to this country, to the constitution, and to the cause of the revolution. They should have had their lands confiscated, their money taken, and been put to forced labor to repair the damage they caused, because they were the losers of that war, and they surrendered unconditionally. But Lincoln didn't see that as helpful in getting the country back on its feet and allowed the "South" to rebuild and become economically viable again. That they decided to build monuments to their losing cause and glorifying a symbol of enslavement was their attempt to rewrite history. It might make you angry that there are those who see removal of these monuments as a step in the direction of healing the divisions that still exist in this country.
I had 25 ancestors fighting for the Union and 16 for the confederacy. The survivors helped each other to heal, becoming founders and builders of churches and helping to rebuild the farms and plantations of middle Tennessee, Virginia and North Carolina. THAT is the history of the war.

Re: “Reader: 'God doesn't reward show offs'

Seth How could she? Wouldnt be in practice if she did.Single payer wouldnt be free its paid for by taxes or like Medicare. It sure works well everywhere in the world. Why not here? Now I dont have the documentation but everyone I know and talk to is in favor and it would save all of us a bunch of dough. The only ones I hear of not in favor are the Pharm. Corporations and insurance lobby.

Madeleine Jacobs: Please cite the documentation that shows the MAJORITY of Americans support a single payer health care system AND as an M.D. (if practicing) do you treat patients for free and pay for expenses out of your pocket? Didn't think so!

To continue:)
....held in secret, to the deaf ears of six council members all the way through to the amazingly speedy execution of a conservation easement which is not in compliance with the resolution which the city council passed. There is a very good chance that the appeal which is presently being considered by the Colorado State Court of Appeals will succeed and Strawberry Fields will be returned to its rightful owners. This will be Justice in its finest hour - not only for the citizens of Colorado Springs, but also as precedent for people fighting privatization of public lands in every city and town across our nation.

This is what happens when a "Johnny Come Lately" Bully of a Billionaire, meets our FBI Mayor and confused City council ......whom would rather sniff the genitals of a billionaire. ... than represent the hundreds of thousands of citizens whom made this city GREAT !!

Thanks for having the intestinal fortitude to send in a letter like this Jeff, as you won't see much support for it but it helps to balance some of the blatant bias normally seen here.
