Re: “KCMJ's big flip to FM

I know 100 Watts is not much but you really need to get your broadcast up into the hills.

Re: “KCMJ's big flip to FM

I'm one of the co-hosts of the Switchbacks-focussed show that you mentioned (Back Chat Show); so first of all, thanks for the shout out!

The KCMJ switch flip to FM will form a community party that is being held at the Stargazers theatre tomorrow evening (Friday 29th) starting at 6:30pm. All are welcome to this free event, where they'll be live music, food, drink and, of course, the flipping of the big switch! I encourage folks that are interested (and have a Facebook account) to check out the invite and RSVP riiiiight here! >…

Ralph Nader? He has been irrelevant since the 1960s when he bitched about how cars handled when their tires were grossly over inflated.

Re: “KCMJ's big flip to FM

Well... Stargazers isn't really a geodesic dome. Also, the 100 Watts refers to the peak envelope power of the radio transmission (system output), not the actual power draw on the AC outlet (system input) which will be a good bit more than 100 Watts. With 100 Watts of output power, I talk to places in Europe.

Re: “New sheriffs in town

Huh.... actually, Muraki were the "new sheriff" I was talking about, but Maxine and the Eskimo Brothers are DEFINITELY great.

And lasted a lot longer than Muraki. :/

Re: “Le Butcherettes, Dweezil Zappa, and Bobby Rush

Yes, Dweezil Zappa did not have to keep moving the tone arm of his turntable to the beginning of a guitar riff over and over to learn it. He could just ask dad or Vai or one of the many who played in Zappa's bands. How convenient! And it seems to have worked out for him plus he will never fear unemployment...

Where is that mural in the above posted photo?

Re: “Joanna Newsom, Ryan Adams, and Frank Zappa

I hear a lot of similarity to Kate Bush's early work, before the more experimental stuff on The Dreaming and Hounds of Love.

Re: “In a silenced way

Except for one, I strongly second and enthusiastically support all the comments of previous posters. We local and online jazz lovers were incredibly privileged to have had Lenny Mazel on the air playing and teaching us about jazz for so many, but not enough, years. The Pikes Peak Jazz and Swing Society's 2nd Sunday Jazz Affair, this Sunday, 11/8/2015, 1:00 to 4:00 pm, will be a Remembrance of and Tribute to Lenny. Members ($5) and non-members ($10) are invited and encouraged to attend. It is held at the Olympian Plaza Reception and Event Center, 975 S. Union Blvd (corner of Union St. and Fountain Blvd.) I hope to see you there. Bob Thompson

Re: “Bovine death hormone

I truly don't understand how Forman continues to run a music section that purposefully neglects the local music scene in all its variety. The Indy is not The Rolling Stone.

Re: “In a silenced way

Interesting to watch KCME struggle through fund drives seven years after abandoning some of the finest jazz programming in the country. The man behind the music is gone for good from KCME and all of us.

KCME wants to be a cultural leader in the region, yet jazz is far more an American cultural icon than European classical music. Maybe it's time to rethink the issue and bring it back.

Re: “Louder than words

Jazz is far beyond the "potential" stage. Jazz is firmly established as America's "classical" music. Modern Jazz is far more interesting than modern experimental "classical" music. On the other hand, Rock and Roll is a younger cousin to Jazz. Both styles spring from the same roots and the best progressive Rock and Roll starts to sound like Jazz. In the future, Rock may come to be considered just another Jazz style, like Dixieland, Bebop, etc.

Re: “Louder than words

Instrumental jazz's potential is far greater than than that of instrumental rock. IF you get bored with rock and rap, come out and see some jazz here in the Springs.
