Re: “Zuni Pueblo artists Morningsong and Fontenelle to visit Colorado Springs

They always perform so beautifully together. The music connects to the very soul. Wonderful people that are so gracious and caring. Don't miss the opportunity to see them you will not be disappointed.

Re: “Colorado Classic cycling race starts in the Springs, attracts world-class cyclists

It is just a little annoying to always have the life and routine of the neighborhood disrupted by street closures and detours, I know many Old Colorado City businesses had to close or did very little business during this event, Colorado Avenue is a main business area through the Westside. How much of this cycling event will benefit anything that needs repairs or improvements for the neighborhood expected to take it on the chin for the good of the "community?" Just wonder who benefited the most from this interference in normal residents lives. There was traffic backed up along Pikes Peak and it is dangerous because the drivers are frustrated with the delays. I struggled to get back to the safety of my own driveway only to find a postcard in my mail announcing there will be again be road closures on August 20th for yet another event. Territory Days is disruptive enough and now every time I turn around Pikes Peak looks like a parking lot. From my point of view it isn't worth the impacts.

Re: “Colorado Classic cycling race starts in the Springs, attracts world-class cyclists

I'm all for events that benefit the city, but it is NOT OK to isolate an entire neighborhood (Pleasant Valley) for an entire day. I tried to get to my house a full 20 minutes before the first race started and was told by the police there was no way. I'm with Melanie, this needs to be shut down until a much less disruptive route can be found. I am no longer a friend of Colorado Classic.

Based on photos published by the Gazette, spectator attendance looks meager to me. Is this event really worth the disruption it has caused?

Re: “Colorado Classic cycling race starts in the Springs, attracts world-class cyclists

I can't be the only resident who believes that a bike race shouldn't close down an entire downtown. I'd like to work with whoever is interested to make sure that this never happens again. I would consider changing my opinion if someone showed me how this event benefited the city more than hurt it.

I think cyclists rather than bikers is a more appropriate term. My husband is a biker but I don't think they'll let him ride his Harley in the bike lanes. ;-)

Re: “Six ways art and music lovers, young scientists and connoisseurs of wine and beer should spend this weekend

The Space Foundation event sounds like a winner. It is incredible to think that humankind has been able to develop and land a device on Mars. Curiosity is the size of a small car (mini cooper) and has spent five years gathering samples for study. What an amazing time to be alive with so much advancement. Our ancestors would marvel at the world we live in today.

Re: “Colorado Springs Creative Collective releases preliminary results of ArtSpace survey

Hmm, the most affordable spaces in town are on Academy south of Austin Bluffs, and Fountain/Security, not downtown or Old Colorado City. This could be a problem. If they can find a way to be hip in those areas, hats off to them. But it's not really about art, is it.

Re: “Trifecta bares it all onstage

Speaking as someone who has actually met these creatures and performed alongside them, i can tell you they are QUEER AS ALL HELL, moreso in my opinion than the whitewashed, heteronormative, well-behaved (aka tightass) types the LG(BT yeah right) movement slaps on the cover of everything they do nowadays.

As people who defy convention, challenge patriarchy, and are unabashedly themselves while accepting all others unconditionally, these women are, in my opinion, actually prime candidates for the sort of folk we want representing us in the arts.

i would cordially invite @Aquastar99 to fuck right off and actually educate themselves on what intersectionality means for us and when white and straight are actually the enemy vs when they are not. i encourage this commentator to direct their energy into combating the real forces of oppression we face, not insulting some of our finest warriors with her ridiculous assumptions of identity.

Ugh.

Re: “Trifecta bares it all onstage

Aquastar99 shame on you. You don't know these women and what they truly desire. They have enough room in their hearts to love more than what's between the legs and they are no where near unworthy to represent the community just because they are married. I am proud to call them friends and am delighted to see that they are representing the LGBTQ. They will always fight for the equal treatment of all. It's a shame that we,as a community, attack each other just because someone doesn't fit into the stereotypes. You really need to do some self reflection before passing judgement on someone else.

Re: “Trifecta bares it all onstage

Aqaustar99 do you know all these women personally AND every person they have been with? How you know they're straight? Because they're married? I'm married to a man and munch the ladies right alongside him. How queer is queer enough? Do they all need to be holding a tub of hummus aloft in one hand and a vulva like a bowling ball in the other, hairy armpits displayed for all to see? Stay in that little pigeon hole you have created for yourself but don't try to jam others in one.

AQUASTAR99 - You're doing what you claim to hate. Being a bigot. Just because they may not subscribe yo YOUR queer standards does not make you end all be all in the Queer world.
You want equal rights? Then treat EVERYONE as an equal.

Re: “Raw Tools turns swords into plowshares

While the concept sounds nice, it is flawed. The types of people who are willing to give up their guns for this are not the types of people causing the problems out there with guns. Indeed, the problem isn't the guns, it is the people. In fact, there are over 37,000 people in El Paso County with concealed carry permits. To date, not one of them has been involved in an unjustified shooting. Those are numbers you just can't argue with.

Now, if we could just start bringing in criminals, and composting them for my garden, I think we'd be on to something!!!
