Re: “The Indy's picks for the 2017 Coordinated Elections

Man I hope these pass. I don't want to feel disappointed in my city like last time.

Re: “Jenkins buys RBD downtown properties

to the headline: ...of course he does. to the lovell quote: "he already owned most of it, he may as well own all of it" this city has no real concept of leadership, no spirit of innovation, no ideas regarding community development and zero interest in understanding/creating/listening/communicating with citizens; we can only cater to the whim of a few individuals

Re: “2017 Best Of Colorado Springs Food, Drink and Nightlife

Looks like the Wings category winner is misspelled. It's supposed to be "Wild Wings and Things." I'm a complete wing snob, and they consistently live up to my expectations. Bomber sauce and fries, best in town, hands down. Short on cash? Get the 50c wings from Hatchcover.

Re: “A proposed change to Section 8 looks to desegregate neighborhoods

SouthEast Colorado Springs is still a nice middle class area. I am sorry about what happened to Deerfield Hills, but other areas such as Soaring Eagles, Miller's Crossing, SandCreek Village and Crestline are filled with nice homes ranging from 150K - 300K. So stop putting down an entire part of the city due to the problems of one neighborhood.

Section 8 can be a hand up to those who will use it as such. I hope that our city officials find ways to make the program work better.

Re: “2017 Best Of Colorado Springs Food, Drink and Nightlife

I would like this more if it had addresses and phone numbers for these winners a simple map would really be a plus. I am limited by travel, I can go by bus, manual wheelchair or electric wheelchair, so some will be out of reach, up stairs. or otherwise less accessible for me. Thanks!

Re: “The Indy's picks for the 2017 Coordinated Elections

I agree School District 11 can use more money but I would also like to see a small payroll tax on the employees that collect pay checks from the district and do not live in the district. Something nominal perhaps based on their salary. That would show me that they are willing to help fund the district too, not just take a check.

Re: “Campaign for city stormwater led by mayor

I can't wait to see if the city sheeple fall for this one.

Previous articles have identified $17Million in the city general fund to pay for stormwater. They city has whined that this is not enough money for stormwater and that the projects are getting backlogged. Now, the city wants you to approve this new tax, er, I mean "fee" that will raise $17Million for stormwater. Great! That will double the amount so they can get caught up, right? Ha ha ha.. no, read the rest of the articles. They need more cops. They need more vehicles.. And it this new tax passes, they have already said that the current $17Million will then be freed up to pay for more cops and vehicles.

1. They won't actually be increasing spending on stormwater at all. So we can assume the backlog will continue.
2. The only place where spending will increase will be for more cops and police cars.

I guess this isn't really a "stormwater" tax, er, I mean "fee". It is actually a new public safety tax, which the voters rejected last time it was asked for.

Shell games...

Re: “Homes near marijuana dispensaries worth more, report says

Hey BoCC imagine that! Those green crosses were not a detriment.
The BoCC works so hard against marijuana they put an anti marijuana person as the lead for the Board of Health.

Re: “2017 Best Of Colorado Springs V.I: Welcome and Winners Index

Sad when chains get voted best of.
Also sad is when King's Chef Diner is listed in best late night place when they close at 4PM.
Wake up readers!
The votes coming from the staff have always ruined this list.

Re: “City Council grants taxing authority to Nor'wood Development Group

Unfortunately, council appears to be conducting business as usual with the developers. I'm not anti-development however; I have witnessed the use of too many "creative strategies" to advance certain proposals through planning and Council. In these instances, the taxpayers are left paying for the projects long after the developer has moved on.

Pam, thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Joel, Appreciate your insightful comments. The impervious surface comment is spot on. This is exactly what is getting us into trouble with the EPA, etc.

Re: “Reader: Peaceful protest are for peaceful people

While not an advocate of guns I am of the opinion that there is a time and place for citizens to carry guns. Not all protests are peaceful. Guns were carried to a protest against White Supremacy because of the threats that were issued by the Hate Groups. You should note that these Hate Groups did not show their cowardly faces because the people who were fighting their hate chose to bring their guns. It took quite some bravery for these people to show up with their guns and not only face the Hate Groups, but the hate from those who they were there to protect. Since Trump was elected and we have had a free for all when it comes to these racist groups many citizens have realized that peaceful protests are no longer viable. You can have your own views on guns, as I do, but I take exception to the comment that they are cowards.
